Live with Wood Mackenzie at the webinar: Wind farm redevelopment – maximizing the value of aging and future wind turbines
Last Tuesday, March 22, our CEO Carlo Durante offered in a live event, hosted by Wood Mackenzie Power and Renewables, a presentation about our redevelopment solutions, which are designed to extend wind farms certified life while increasing its annual energy production (AEP), and optimizing its LCOE (Levelized Cost of Energy).
Nowadays life extension has become a must in a wind industry driven by a post-subsidies political context, which is being progressively adopted as a new standard by OEMs and certification agencies (up to 30 years, vs 40 years of ISPs and Operators). Consequently, life extension gives now a solid basis for long-term retrofits, enabling interesting fine tuning business cases. The underlying need of having a better control of the asset, depending on the long term market conditions (tariffs, permits, incentives) is key.
That is the reason why we offer to the park owners and operators a long-term sustainable formula that we call Redevelopment, that consists of a combination of:
- Performance Improvement: modern technologies which are able to extract more AEP (up to 25% of increase).
- O&M adaptation: thanks to predictive engines, deploy site-condition based preventive actions, which result in relevant O&M savings (up to 10% OPEX savings).
- Life extension: which controls the long-term risk (failures), extending the increased AEP + improved O&M up to 40 years.
In a session of an hour the topics above were discussed together with the reasons why extending life is a better solution than repowering at year 20, continued with a 20-minutes Q&A block, in which interesting questions have been raised regarding our methodologies and our rerotoring solutions.
